The Guidi 1112B Thru-Hull features a narrow grated scoop that can mitigate the loss of flow at high vessel speeds, without increasing the risk of debris ingestion. In addition to being common for use with AC plants and watermakers, scoop thru-hulls can be helpful in resolving issues with raw water supply on other equipment as well.
Exercise discretion when choosing scoop-type thru-hulls - the added dynamic pressure may have unintended effects, such as increased flow rate through centrifugal pumps while underway. Many marine generators and propulsion engines forbid the use of forward-facing scoop thru-hulls due to the possibility of engine flooding. Best practice is to use them only when specified by the manufacturer of the equipment being supplied.
