VacuFlush® Sanitation Technology
Featuring odor-free performance, easy operation and outstanding
efficiency, VacuFlush has become one of the most sought-after
sanitation systems for boat manufacturers and boat owners
around the world.
Why VacuFlush® Technology
Is Better
There are many differences among marine
toilet systems. But compared with other systems – whether
it’s a manual-pump toilet or electric macerating type
– VacuFlush systems offer the most advantages that result
in homelike comfort and superior performance.
Fresh water operation eliminates odors of raw water systems.
Raw water contains seaweed and other living organisms that
can decay and create pungent odors in a toilet. VacuFlush
systems use fresh water, eliminating the possibility of these
unwanted odors.
Minimal water use improves holding tank efficiency.
Because VacuFlush systems use fresh water, they are specially
engineered to use little water for flushing – as low
as one pint (.5 liter) per flush – to preserve onboard
supplies for other uses. This also greatly improves holding
tank efficiency.
Powerful vacuum action keeps toilet and lines clean.
Vigorous water and air flow clear bowl instantly and keep
plumbing lines open, reducing chances of discharge hose odor
permeation.
The look and performance of household toilets.
Many VacuFlush marine toilets feature adult-size seats, deep
bowls and large water surfaces to make them extremely comfortable
and easy to use. Flush and Forget®* system (available
on selected models) allows simple one-touch flushing –
just like home!
Low power use.
VacuFlush pedal-operated toilets draw only 2 – 6 amps,
and electric Flush and Forget models use only an additional
7 amps – compared with upward of 60 amps by other models.
Unbeatable reliability.
By eliminating impurities and residue of raw water systems,
VacuFlush systems require less maintenance and extend component
life significantly.
Enhanced resale value.
Sparkling vitreous china toilets and a powerful, easy-to-use
vacuum sanitation system reflect a higher standard of quality
than other systems – increasing the value of your boat.
VacuFlush® Use and
Care
VacuFlush toilets are
easy to use.
Lift pedal or handle to add water to
bowl. Generally, water is added when flushing solids. Push
pedal or handle down to flush. Hold pedal down for three seconds
to assure thorough flush (less water can be used when flushing
only liquids). For electronic Flush and Forget®* toilets,
the flush ball automatically stays open for three seconds.
Release flush pedal, allowing it to snap back into proper
position. Bowl refills for next flush.
Use only rapid-dissolving tissue.
VacuFlush systems are designed to handle effluent and rapid-dissolving
toilet tissue. Non-dissolving items such as feminine hygiene
products, paper towels, facial tissue, some household toilet
tissues* and other paper products may cause plugs.
If leaving the boat for an extended time…
Sanitation discharge lines should be cleared if the boat will
be sitting idle for an extended period of time, and at least
once a month if it is regularly used. Here’s how:
Fill toilet bowl with water.
Add ½ cup of liquid laundry detergent.
Flush toilet, allowing water to flow for about 2 minutes.
Close flush ball.
Completely pump out holding tank.
Cleaning the toilet and bowl seal.
SeaLand® vitreous china toilets should be cleaned regularly
for maximum sanitation and operational efficiency. Clean it
just as you would a household toilet. Do not use caustic chemicals,
such as drain-opening types, as they will damage the seals.
BOWL CLEANING: For stubborn stains, use SeaLand
Bowl and Seal Cleaner (Fig. A). It’s manufactured especially
for use with all Dometic toilet brands. In certain locations
where water is hard, a buildup of lime may dull the toilet
bowl finish. Restore the shine with this SeaLand cleaner.
If you cannot find it in your area, contact Dometic for your
nearest dealer. It is not necessary to scrub vigorously. Please
follow label instructions.
SEAL CLEANING: After an extended time, mineral
deposits from hard water can build up under the edge of the
rubber bowl seal, resulting in a slow leakdown of water from
the bowl. To prevent this mineral buildup, periodically clean
under the bowl seal with SeaLand Bowl and Seal Cleaner
Shut off water supply.
Apply cleaner onto the seal cleaning tool (supplied with new
toilet), open the flush ball by pressing on flush lever, and
scrub under the seal. Make sure to push bristles between bottom
of seal and top of flush ball surface to scrub all parts of
seal that come into contact with flush ball.
Close ball and wait 2 – 3 minutes.
Open flush ball. Use brush and water to rinse away cleanser
and loosened deposits.
Winterizing the sanitation system
At the end of each season, the toilet and sanitation system
should be winterized for storage by either draining or using
potable water-safe antifreeze.
To drain:
Thoroughly flush system with fresh water.
Empty holding tank.
Shut off water supply to toilet(s), and remove inlet waterline
(Fig. C). Do not remove brass cap on bottom of valve.
Press flush lever until all water is drained from toilet(s).
To use antifreeze:
Drain potable water tank.
Add freshwater antifreeze to potable water tank.
Flush potable water antifreeze and water mixture through toilet(s)
and into the waste holding tank. Each installation is different,
so amounts may vary. User discretion is required to assure
adequate protection.
Empty holding tank.
NOTE: Use nontoxic antifreeze designated
for potable water systems. (See vehicle owner’s manual.)
CAUTION: Never use automotive-type antifreeze
in freshwater systems.
